Well let me tell you that this issues has not been taken in consideration by me until last month four (4) different projects gave the spark to start studying (again) what is Vdc in our Data Centre industry, of course -48Vdc in Telecomm is a very extended practice, but in DCs? Well I have found that this is not very used outside carriers and so -of course in Mexico-
So surprisingly I have realized that this is just a DCs trend that we are going to hear, read and be aware in the short (very short) time. But why ?
"Today commercial buildings use between 33-50% of all AC electricity produced and distributed by public utilities....."
but what about data centres?
The direct electricity used by data centers has become an important issue in recent years as demands for new Internet services (such as search, music downloads, video-on-demand, social networking, and telephony) have become more widespread. Jonathan G. Koomey Standford Univ. 2008
Fair calculations says that 1.5 to 2% of the total consumption of energy around the world is just for Data Centres. IF this is true and the idea above is true, then we in the next 20 - 25 years as an Information Society will need a lot and I said a LOT of electricity.
For buildings including Data Centres we have to look into every technical possibility / solution to contain, decrease and manage wisely the generation, distribution and consumption of energy. Is clear to all of us?
Direct Current power offer to us advantages that we can not overlook, just because we are not use this solution.

As you can figure out DC in DCs will give us an issue to workout. At least or me it has given a new theme to study..
Just because something doesn't do what you planned it to do doesn't mean it's useless. Thomas Edison
