DCs´ 2017 Trend #5 Machine Learning & Artificial Intelligence

Autonomous cars, industry 4.0, are giving us the updating in Isaac Asimov´s robot rules
1.A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.
2-A robot must obey orders given it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.
But Are we SURE enough that -at least- these three statements will be comply by the AI  equipment that has a "machine learning"?

As we have seen in the cinema´s movies exist several issues that the mankind will have to pay attention to avoid that the "machines" learn to much and then will waste the humans -with all our weaknesses-

We can not deny that AI & machine learning have advanced the last few years and this 2017 will keep on. So DCs will have to storage , compute & connect all the information from all of those intelligent devices.

But if everything can be substitute by a robot -machine- what will happen indeed with the humans in the next 50-60 years? This more than a trend -not stoppable by the way- is a ethics situation that societies will have to face very soon.

DCs´ 2017 Trend #4 Gen "Z" how they will (ARE) impacting DCs industry

They are our children or grand children or grand grand children, they born in late 1999 and next years will embrace the world with a more focus attitude; they use 3,4 screens at the same time (X-box, tablet, lap, smart phone,...) everything goes virtual and need some grounding to understand reality. They learn ON LINE, and like to download any file, movie at ligth speed , they will drive the autonomous (Teslas or not) car in highways in the next 6-7 years. They are  just 25% /7,500,000,000 people on planet Earth. So we should take them in consideration for business portfolio?  one word -YES-

DCs industry will grow -also- because this Gen "Z", because everything the think, read, buy, need is ON LINE and those activities -transmission, computation, storage are located -sooner or later- in a mission critical facility called Data Centre.
Of course mobility is the KEY word for all these teenager becoming young adults in few years; they use internet, IoT and generate BIG DATA every single week or weekend in any mall, park, store, museum, school, home around the world,

So keep an eye in them , adjust your Business Digital Transformation, be sensible to Corporate Social Responsibility -they are deeply interested in our environment quality- and made all of these issues in an integrated way

Gen "Z"   has arrived, BE PREPARE!     or what do you think?

DCs´ 2017 Trend #3 Digital Business Transformation & DCs

"Digital Business Transformation -DBT- is Organizational Change through the use
of Digital Technologies and Business Models to Improve Performance" -Cisco-
"Customer Experience (CX) is the product of an interaction between an organization and a customer over the duration of their relationship" -Wikipedia-

Envision on what the business should be in the NEAR future pass trough organizational change; the foundation of DBT is organizational change, related to people, processes, strategies, structures, and competitive dynamics, is where most of the challenges and opportunities reside. Ubiquity -mobile- presence is other issue to consider in DBT.

Data Centres are among all of these business themes because everything needs and will need Data gathering (IoT), BIG DATA, Data analysis, Cloud and DCs to storage, transmission and computation. This DBT is pushing not only the change in the enterprises but in the DC´s industry with mobile and small DCs to give the rigth solutions to this business demand.

DBT is a trend that is impacting our industry and will keep doing

DC´s 2017 Trend #2 Industry 4.0 "smart factories"

In DCs industry we have took seriously autonomous cars, traffic signage, smart homes & buildings,...and its relationship with mission critical facilities,  but what about factories?

The Industry 4.0 offers what is known as a smart factory. These smart factories provide for systems that can monitor the physical processes, make copies of the physical world and make their own decisions.
Using IoT, the cyber physical systems can cooperate and communicate and facilitate decision making in real-time so that humans and machines can interact with each other and create added value in the industrial process.
note: The term Industry 4.0 comes from a project undertaken by the German government that promoted manufacturing and computerization in one.

So when loss of employment are a political flag in several countries -not only USA-, when we try to optimize energy efficiency, and made more sustainable the world, the "INDUSTRY 4.0" is a trend that it is unstoppable in years to come. Industry 4.0 includes at least :

  • Internet of Things
  • Cloud Computing
  • Cyber/Physical Systems.
  • Less personnel but more skilled
  • Huge capital investment but less maintenance (except software patches)
In every factory exist or will exist a DC, our industry is immerse of this wave no doubt.

DC´s 2017 Trend #1 Renewables & impact in Micro & Edge computing growth

Resultado de imagen para tesla energy storage equipment images

I am ready for my electric car -as you can see- so what will happen with all renewable wave? Willbe stop in USA? or will the business continue?

In any case more and more devices will be ON / IN the streets, that information is now named BIG DATA, but it is a "raw" information that need to be "analyse" and use where it make more sense; so most of the times this info will be needed in the "EDGE"  and the computing is now going to the border.

For solving this some companies will need computing capability near the street in mDCs but does the renewable energies worth to be use by those tiny DCs?

Well let say that this kind of DC could have a electric load let say 10-12kW/h  can a renewable + battery set be enough for supply energy?

As technical development on those generation equipment has overcome realibility, sustainability, availability in cellular mobile site´s, this could be a way to reduce TCO for this investment in DCs industry
